Qualcomm has developed a new product called the 10G Fiber Gateway Platform, designed to improve the performance of home broadband services. The solution combines high-performance Wi-Fi 7 and service-defining Wi-Fi technologies to provide users with customizable services.

Wi-Fi 7

Unlike traditional broadband gateways that have fixed configurations, Qualcomm's platform features a software-defined gateway. This means that the functionality and features of the gateway can be continuously customized through software updates. This flexibility allows for adaptation to changing network needs and evolving technologies.

“We also believe that Qualcomm’s Service Defined Wi-Fi technology will help underpin the home networking revolution by providing consumers with guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS),” said Andrew Spivey, senior analyst at ABI Research.

The 10G Fiber Gateway Platform supports Wi-Fi 7, the latest generation of Wi-Fi technology, which delivers higher performance, faster speeds and better connectivity to digital devices in the home. Qualcomm brings a new feature called Service Defined Wi-Fi, an intelligent system that orchestrates, classifies, prioritizes and schedules network traffic within the home network. The technology enhances the user experience by optimizing network resources and ensuring that critical applications receive the necessary bandwidth. Qualcomm’s Service Defined Wi-Fi technology provides a unified architecture for managing the flow of data from the cloud (service provider) to end-user devices in the home. The solution is designed to ensure that the user’s expectations for 10G Fiber broadband are always met, regardless of the activity the user is engaged in, whether it is gaming, streaming, video conferencing or sharing content.

“By combining 10G Fiber with 5G and Wi-Fi, the world’s fastest-growing wireless network in the home will be able to connect to the internet and connect to the internet faster,” said Rahul Patel, senior vice president and general manager of connectivity, broadband and networks at Qualcomm. 7 together to our technology portfolio, we now offer a compelling portfolio of solutions to help service providers drive revenue growth, service innovation, and deliver a more immersive and engaging user experience.

Qualcomm Service-Defined Wi-Fi technology offers a specialized feature called Application Type Orchestration that enables service providers to deliver a better user experience by optimizing Internet connectivity for specific types of applications. In the case of remote work, employers can provide employees with specialized Internet services optimized for remote work tools and video conferencing, ensuring productivity and connectivity.

Qualcomm 10G Optical Gateway Platform and Service-Defined Wi-Fi technology are expected to be available in summer 2024.
